Cresson, Texas, is at the crossroads of Texas State Highway 171 and US 377 in the northeast corner of Hood County, Texas. More than 60,000 cars pass through Cresson each day.
The intersection of the two highways is the geographic center of The Barnett Shale, one of the nation's largest natural gas fields. Since 2000 a new gas drilling and production boom has blossomed in and around the Cresson area that has brought with it rapid growth.
Since Cresson is located only 15 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Texas, a major metropolitan area, business development and real estate activity in the area have increased dramatically.
In 2007 the population of Cresson was listed as 726. That number has risen to 1,014. A developer has speculated that the population of Cresson could increase tenfold in the next twenty years.
